Dispatches - Iraq's Secret War Files

Dispatches, Channel 4's flagship current affairs strand, using the Wikileak's data, exposes the full and unreported horror of the Iraqi conflict and its aftermath, revealing the true scale of civilian casualties; that, even after the scandal of Abu Ghraib, American soldiers continued to abuse prisoners; and that US forces did not systematically intervene in the torture and murder of detainees by the Iraqi security services.

Bill Moyers - Shades of Howard Zinn: It's Okay If It's Impossible

The first Howard Zinn Memorial Lecture is delivered by veteran journalist, Bill Moyers:

Shades of Howard Zinn: It's Okay If It's Impossible

Citing Zinn as his inspiration, Moyers focuses on the challenges facing our democracy. He decried what he says has been a 30-year trend toward plutocracy, where the rich get richer at the expense of the average citizen.

Howard Zinn, the political activist and author who taught for 24 years in the College of Arts & Sciences political science department, died in January. The Howard Zinn Memorial Lecture is made possible by a generous gift from Alex MacDonald, Esq. (CAS'72), and Maureen A. Strafford, MD (MED'76).

Presented at Alumni Weekend on October 29, 2010.

Is God A Lie or Dead?

Religious fanatics gathered at the corner of S. Congress Ave. and Oltorf St. to proselytize religious lies. Was man made by God in his image or has man made God in our ignorance and weakness? Atheist pedestrians engaged in an open debate about sin, God and the question of how natural beings, such as humans, can't understand the supernatural realm. Also mentioned was the question of where one seeks forgiveness as a way to overcome sins, God or inner self? ; One of the atheists argued that God was not necessary and is actually a distraction from solving problems.
