Protesters Want More Safety at Construction Sites

A protest in front of the governor's office Wednesday got a little rowdy.

The Workers Defense Project said Governor Rick Perry doesn't care about the risks construction workers face. They cited his comments last week and said he downplayed worker safety.

One of the claims the project cited from the governor was that Texas has the highest number of construction deaths in the U.S. as a result of the state having the most construction.

The Workers Defense Project wants Perry to end what they called "the appalling number of deaths in the construction industry here in Texas."

"We're talking about a worker dying every two-and-a-half days. Quite frankly, we think we can do better in Texas, and that there's no reason to undervalue the lives of construction workers. It's simply insulting," Cristina Tzintzun with Workers Defense Project, said.

Protesters delivered a letter to Governor Perry's office asking for a formal meeting.
